01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
At MMC in Kamezawa, Sumida, a cup of coffee becomes an exploration of a bean’s varied nuances rather than a single straightforward pour. The shop's signature Coffee Combo presents a side-by-side tasting of 2 preparations crafted from the very same beans. Ordering the 'YUAN YI YUAN' from Yunnan, China, for instance, yields both a clean cold brew highlighting the bean’s unadorned fruit notes and an inventive signature beverage layered with jasmine tea, raspberry, and cream cheese foam. Swirling the glass mingles the tart coffee with the silky foam, delivering the multi-dimensional balance of a well-crafted cocktail.
A Lineup Showcasing Distinct Terroirs
Beyond Chinese origins, the combo sets feature selections from Colombia and Kenya; the Colombian option, for example, weaves together vibrant notes of ume plum, yellow peach, bergamot, and lemongrass. The pour-over selection is equally thorough, offering a thoughtful range across roasts and processing methods, such as a yeast-fermentation natural from Yunnan, a washed Colombian Java varietal, or a Panamanian Pink Bourbon. Behind the counter, staff are on hand to explain the flavor profiles, turning the process of finding your preferred cup into an engaging ritual.
Desserts in Harmony with Coffee
The dessert menu is thoughtfully designed to complement the distinctive drinks. The much-praised 'The Cool Tiramisù' pairs luscious, velvety cream with coffee bitterness, enriched by the texture of chopped chocolate and a subtle aroma of spirits for a pleasantly adult profile. A coffee rice pudding, offering a chewy, mochi-like texture infused with gentle sweetness and roasty depth, stands out as another uncommon and memorable treat.
Set against cool concrete finishes, the interior maintains a quiet, refined atmosphere. Outdoor terrace seating welcomes visitors with dogs, making it a peaceful pause to savor a considered cup while strolling the neighborhood or visiting nearby museums.
